Information protection outfit Nucleus Cyber has announced the arrival of a new product designed to simplify security for Microsoft Teams.

The offering aims to provide secure collaboration in a world where Microsoft Teams is allowing for smoother digital collaboration experiences.

The recent release allows Team owners to apply security settings using rule sets that allow for the prevention of accidental data loss, sharing, and misuse.

This also opens the door for a secure guest experience. The offering responds to the massive Microsoft Teams growth that has occurred during the pandemic, with over 115 million daily active users already.

The Teams platform makes it easy to share information rapidly and have conversations with co-workers. However, like any innovation, Teams requires businesses to consider their security settings carefully.

Keeping Information Properly Protected

Kurt Mueffelmann, COO at Nucleus, said user-managed solutions like Microsoft Teams are valuable, but they can make it difficult to keep a close eye on data. Companies need help to ensure that their security, sharing, and usage policies are being addressed by team users.

Subsequently, the company set out to make it as simple as possible for NC Protect customers to secure new teams and channels using default policies for security, without getting IT involved. NC Protect includes built-in default rulesets that allow team owners to establish security policies from within the Teams app itself. Features of NC Protect default rule sets include:

  • Custom default rule sets: Out of the box rule sets can be customised to suit the individual needs of your organisation.
  • Privacy settings: Users can apply additional privacy controls to a channel or team, such as “public”, “private” or “archived” settings. Archived puts all documents in read-only mode within the secure reader, with a personalised watermark.
  • Guest access: Users can control guest access to a channel or team and apply security features like forced viewing of sensitive information in read-only environments.
  • Information protection: Select from a range of policies to control access to content and documents, including the automatic application of watermarks, forced viewing in a read-only environment, and restricted functions (print and copy/paste).
  • Channel security: Determine whether a channel inherits the same security policies as a team or has unique settings.

Integration with the Microsoft Teams user interface also means that team owners can apply default information rules and set it to the channel or team from a dedicated tab within the Microsoft Teams app.

With a variety of ways to secure Microsoft Teams chats and channels, NC Protect is giving companies more control over their digital collaboration experience. The latest release of the NC Protect service includes the default rule sets feature, and it is now available to all customers. Businesses can use this offering to safeguard all the critical information they share in Microsoft Teams, and the NC Protect service also supports other information protection services for Microsoft apps.
