Our usual expert guest and Microsoft MVP Tom Arbuthnot, from Modality Systems, joins Patrick to review all of the Microsoft Teams news from the past few weeks.

The biggest surprise is that Tom has some Skype for Business related news. He takes Patrick through the news from the latest CU9 software update and then moves on to discuss a looming deadline. By the 1st of July this year all Skype for Business IP Phones must have their firmware updated to continue to work with Microsoft Office 365.

Patrick and Tom then move on to discuss the latest Microsoft Teams updates. Tom tells Patrick that in the latest update specific teams that aren’t used within the platform for 45 days will be automatically hidden from members, reducing admin. The information barrier feature, designed to ensure the prevention of cross communication between compliant departments, is now in preview. This will prevent certain people within regulated organisations communicating potentially sensitive data to one another.

There is more news about Teams compatibility within VDI, virtual desktop infrastructure, environments. Teams will now support chat and collaboration functionality with VDI. Video and calls are still not supported but Tom is expecting that to change in the near future.

The last update relates to Kaizala. Kaizala, a Microsoft mobile communication application, is widely used in emerging markets and now Microsoft have revealed it will be integrated into Microsoft Teams. Although the exact logistics have not been revealed for how this integration will work, and look, it will continue over the coming months.

After reviewing and discussing all of the other feature announcements Tom and Patrick look ahead to the next big event which will be UC EXPO in May. Both Tom and Patrick will be appearing during the event and UC Today will also be attending as media partners to bring you all the latest news.

Listen, or watch on your daily commute, whilst walking the dog, or in the gym. UC Today – The Out Loud Microsoft Monthly provides bite size videos and podcasts, bringing you all of the latest Microsoft collaboration news.
