TINYpulse is an employee survey tool that helps to increase workplace engagement and drive two-way feedback. The company was founded in 2012 and is based in Seattle in the US. Small to mid-sized and large organisations use TINYpulse to monitor employee sentiment, including recognised names such as HubSpot, Limeade, Deloitte, and Microsoft.
Recently, in July 2020, Limeade announced that it would acquire TINYpulse for $8.8 million, owing to their shared vision for employee wellbeing in the wake of the pandemic and the fact that they are both Seattle-based HR tech providers.

The TINYpulse platform integrates with several business applications to help collect data from multiple touchpoints and streamline data-driven HR decisions. For instance, you can use Microsoft Teams, Slack, and Gmail to gather data on employee sentiment and experience. You can also connect TINYpulse with HR processes management apps like Workday and Bamboo HR to make employee experience information accessible where you need it the most.
The TINYpulse Microsoft Teams app converts your favourite collaboration hub into a portal for collecting employee feedback and facilitating recognition. Let us review these capabilities in detail.
Inside TINYpulse for Microsoft Teams
To install TINYpulse, visit Microsoft AppSource, and search for the TINYpulse app. You will be prompted to choose a particular team where you want to use TINYpulse – keep in mind that you can add the app as a channel tab later. Once you have installed TINYpulse for Microsoft Teams, open the primary TINYpulse platform to configure the Teams integration. With both platforms set up, you are ready to start using the TINYpulse integration for Teams.
Here are its key features:
- Cheers and wins – The cheers and wins feature facilitates employee and peer recognition in Teams. From the TINYpulse app, you can send Cheers to a specific individual who went the extra mile at work. This option appears as a “Send Cheers for Peers” card, where you can specify the user’s name and the reason for recognition and choose a value from a checklist. You should set up a dedicated channel for your Cheers and Wins feed. You can create a new channel for Cheers updates and add TINYpulse to the channel.
- Employee pulse surveys – This is the flagship feature enabled by the TINYpulse app in Teams. As the name suggests, TINYpulse makes it easier to leverage pulse surveys to capture employee sentiment and strengthen culture. You need to be able to gather sentiment data from a variety of sources, and this includes Teams. The TINYpulse Teams app lets you notify employees about a live survey directly from the Teams app. They can log into the Teams platform to complete the survey – without interrupting the regular work flow. The app also introduces gamification by letting users know when they are on a survey participation streak.
- Team mood dashboard – There is a dashboard that you can use to view the current state of team engagement. It also allows you to plot how team sentiment and mood have improved over time by analysing the trends in pulse survey results.
- Anonymous suggestions and feedback – You can also set up TINYpulse to ask open-ended questions instead of a structured pulse survey. From the TINYpulse app in Teams, users can choose the send suggestion option and type in their feedback. It will be sent anonymously – i.e., without sharing any user information – and you can send your comments to only Teams admins. This feature is useful when users have complaints or feedback they do not want to share with their manager.
- The TINYpulse bot – The TINYpulse bot is available from the main TINYpulse app in Teams. Importantly, any Teams user can add the app to their Team account, and they will be able to send data directly to TINYpulse (suggestions, survey info, and recognitions), without having to reflect anywhere in Teams. The user can ask the bot to perform these functionalities through simple commands like “send cheers,” “my surveys,” “help,” etc.
Why the TINYpulse App Makes a Difference
For companies relying on TINYpulse for team engagement, the Teams app encourages broader participation and facilitates peer recognition where employees are likely to “hang out the most”.
