Microsoft is working on a new mode for Teams that will optimise the platform for high-quality music.

In a roadmap entry, made on 1 July, Microsoft said it will support up to 32 kHz sampling rate mono audio at 12 kbps and “optimise our internal audio processing settings for reproducing music with high fidelity”.

“We also provide users the option to turn off components such as echo cancellation, noise suppression, and gain control if needed,” Microsoft added.

“To benefit from this improved fidelity, professional microphones and headphones or high-quality external loudspeakers are ideal (no Bluetooth headsets).”

Microsoft said that Teams will automatically adjust the audio bitrate based on the available bandwidth, with the ability to go down to 48kbps while “still delivering good music quality”.

It also said that built-in microphones and speakers on laptops such as the Surface Book will deliver a good experience for users.

The new feature brings Teams in line with Zoom which already has a high-quality music sharing function.
