Magewell has expanded its USB Capture portfolio with its new premium HDMI 4K Pro device.
The leading video capture vendor, Magewell, outlines that its compact USB Capture devices allow computers, including laptops, to capture high-quality AV signals via a USB interface without needing an additional power source. This enables AV professionals and system integrators to incorporate high-quality video and audio signals into software applications and platforms.
Magewell highlights that the new USB Capture HDMI 4K Pro retains all the features users love about the existing USB Capture HDMI 4K Plus model while utilising 20Gbps USB transfer performance on compatible host systems to capture 4K video at higher frame rates and colour precision.
James Liu, VP of Engineering at Magewell, said:
We’re proud of the role that our USB Capture devices have played in customers’ transition to software-centric AV solutions, and we’re thrilled to expand our portfolio with the USB Capture HDMI 4K Pro. Combining the portability and plug-and-play convenience of the USB Capture family with support for capturing 4K video at 60 frames per second opens up new use cases in live production, immersive presentations and more.”
More Specifics One The Product’s Design And Features
When connected to a host computer with a 20Gbps USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 interface, Magewell outlines that the USB Capture HDMI 4K Pro can capture HDMI inputs up to 4096×2160 (including 3840×2160 Ultra HD) at 60fps with 4:4:4 chroma fidelity. It is also compatible with lower-performance USB 3.2, USB 3.1, and USB 3.0 interfaces for capturing lower video signals, with capabilities hinging on the host USB connectivity and operating system.
The device offers driver-free setup and automatic input signal format detection for true plug-and-play operation, supporting Windows, Mac, Linux, and Chrome operating systems. Magewell emphasises it provides thorough software compatibility through the UVC specification, with an SDK available for third-party developers to leverage unique features like capturing 10-bit High Dynamic Range (HDR) signals.
The device supports embedded HDMI audio, an analogue audio input, and a stereo headphone output. HDMI loop-through connectivity allows the source signal to be sent to a monitor or projector without needing a splitter. Built-in FPGA-based video processing ensures advanced deinterlacing, up/down conversion, and image controls while maximising host system CPU availability for third-party software.
Magewell’s free USB Capture Utility software enables users to configure capture parameters, upgrade firmware, view detailed status information, and more. The latest version of the utility, which also supports earlier models in the USB Capture family, adds the ability to turn the device’s audio capabilities on or off and customise the device name in third-party software.
Magewell Achieves Zoom Certification for USB Capture Devices
Last November, Magewell’s USB Capture HDMI and USB Capture HDMI Plus received a Zoom certification for wired content capture with Zoom Rooms.
Magewell highlights that Zoom certification further solidifies these devices’ position as the “preferred choice” for AV experts and integrators, affirming their leadership in the industry.
“Our USB Capture and USB Capture Plus devices have already been popular with Zoom users because of their reliability and plug-and-play ease of use, which makes them the simplest way to bring high-quality AV signals into the Zoom software,” said Nick Ma, CEO and CTO of Magewell. “The new official Zoom certification for these devices will give integrators and end-customers an added level of confidence that our products have been thoroughly tested for assured compatibility.”
