What has been your business/work highlight of 2024 so far?

My business highlight of 2024 so far has been the opportunity to work with our internal teams to reimagine Owl Labs’ Channel Partner program and further build and improve our global go-to-market strategies. These projects have allowed me to leverage my passion for embracing challenges and developing impactful programs that enhance the overall experience for our partners and customers. By enhancing our channel partner program and refining our go-to-market strategy, we’re paving the way for deeper and more meaningful partnerships while driving revenue growth in new areas. It’s exciting to see how these efforts are already making an impact and setting the stage for our company’s continued success.

Who is your business hero and why?

While I can’t pinpoint just one business hero, I’ve been fortunate to have a close group of accomplished individuals who have influenced and supported me throughout my career. Among them are Frank Weishaupt, Frank Vitagliano, Donna Grothjan, Blaine Raddon, and Ken Marks. These individuals embody the trait I admire most: integrity.

Their guidance, mentorship, and example have helped me develop, realize and hone my skillset. I value their insights and the opportunity to share ideas and concepts with them. While there are a host of others I could name, these individuals have played a significant role in my professional growth, and I’m grateful for their continued support and interaction.

What’s the biggest business mistake you’ve made and what did you learn from it?

One of the biggest mistakes I’ve made in my career was moving too fast. At times, I would take the faster path with less feedback to get the job done, and try to move as efficiently as possible. While I’ve always had a passion for problem-solving and driving sales, I realised very quickly that rushing through projects without considering feedback from stakeholders can lead to suboptimal outcomes.

What I learned from this mistake is the importance of creating an environment where every stakeholder has a voice in the process. By doing so, you can leverage the unique perspectives of individuals to create stronger and more sustainable outcomes for all involved. This approach not only leads to better results but also fosters a safe space for creativity, where diverse ideas can flourish.

Today, I ensure to actively seek input from all stakeholders, encouraging collaboration and ensuring that everyone’s insights are included and considered. This approach has not only improved the quality of work but has also strengthened relationships and led to more successful outcomes overall.

What’s the most inspirational book you’ve ever read and why?

The most inspirational book I’ve ever read is “Atomic Habits” by James Clear. This book has had a profound impact on me as it focuses on how small changes in behaviour can lead to significant improvements in life. Clear discusses the power of habit formation and how mastering simple behaviours can transform one’s life.
What makes “Atomic Habits” so inspiring is its emphasis on the concept of a growth mindset. Clear illustrates how individuals who have achieved mastery in their fields did so not through grand gestures, but by consistently implementing small changes and building positive habits over time.

The book offers practical strategies for creating structure in daily routines and making incremental improvements. It emphasises the importance of consistency, perseverance, and the belief that through continuous growth and improvement, one can achieve extraordinary things.

“Atomic Habits” has motivated me to approach my goals with a focus on the small, everyday actions that contribute to long-term success. It reminds me that by making intentional choices and cultivating positive habits, I have the power to achieve more than I ever imagined.

What’s the biggest challenge you face in your role in 2024?

Despite economic uncertainty continuing to bring about tight budgets this year, employees still have high expectations and want robust and up-to-date tech stacks. As a result of these budget constraints, channel and sales departments must work closely with other areas of the business to adopt a strategic and efficient approach to resource allocation and align goals.

For example, we’re seeing the increasing influence CFOs and CIOs have on tech purchasing decisions and how that ties into their desire for robust tech tools. Employees and tech leads want ‘plug and play’ tools that are intuitive, easy to use, and can be set up in only a few minutes. Additionally, tech leaders often need to align their choice of tools with business growth, meaning they want technology that can provide flexibility to scale depending on company needs.

What technology will have the greatest impact on your business this year and why?

The evolving videoconferencing technology landscape combined with AI innovation is creating smarter product features in 2024. For example, video conferencing cameras will be able to recognise faces faster, automatically zoom in and focus on the speaker more quickly, and become more adept at distinguishing voices from afar. We’re excited to see what comes of AI developments this year given its pivotal role in Owl Labs products.

In connected meeting platforms, AI will further enhance the hybrid meeting experience as it becomes more developed, providing us with enhancements such as more advanced transcript and meeting summary tools, and even real-time language translation for multilingual participants. These are critical features for connecting companies and their customers across the globe and facilitating asynchronous collaboration.
