Hiring platform Workable has introduced new integrated Form I-9 and E-Verify capabilities designed for its customers in the US. The update, stemming from an integration with WorkBright, allows HR teams to complete federally mandated employment eligibility verification directly within the platformβs onboarding workflow, rather than relying on external tools or manual documentation.
βOnboarding sets the tone for the entire employee experience. By embedding I-9 and E-Verify directly into Workable, weβre removing the friction that slows down that critical first impression, so HR teams can focus on welcoming new hires, not chasing paperwork,β
Maria Fillippousi, Chief Product Officer, Workable, said.
The change represents a shift in how organizations using the platform handle compliance during the hiring process. Instead of moving between different systems or relying on PDFs and manual communication between HR staff and new hires, the entire verification process now takes place within the same environment used for recruiting and onboarding.
The development reflects a broader push among HR technology providers to simplify compliance-heavy tasks while maintaining regulatory accuracy.
How the Integrated I-9 and E-Verify Workflow Works
Historically, organizations using Workable had to manage the Form I-9 employment eligibility process outside of the platform. HR teams typically relied on PDFs, email exchanges, or separate software systems to gather the required information and verify employee documentation, creating additional administrative work during onboarding.
With the new release, that process has been embedded directly into Workableβs onboarding experience. The integration with WorkBright enables a digital workflow that guides both new employees and HR administrators through each step of the required verification process.
New hires begin by completing Section 1 of the Form I-9 digitally within the platformβs onboarding portal. Workable automatically pre-fills key information collected during the hiring process to reduce duplicate data entry. Employees can then upload the required identity and employment authorization documents directly through the system.
HR administrators review the submitted documentation and complete Section 2 within the same interface. If E-Verify is enabled by the organization, the system can automatically submit the relevant information to the Department of Homeland Security for verification, removing the need for separate manual submissions or additional administrative steps.
Why Integrated Compliance Matters for HR Teams
Beyond convenience, embedding verification directly into the hiring platform addresses a long-standing challenge for HR teams: managing compliance tasks without introducing unnecessary risk or administrative overhead.
Employment eligibility verification is a mandatory requirement for US employers, and mistakes in the process can have serious consequences. Errors in documentation, missing information, or incorrect submission procedures can expose organizations to regulatory scrutiny and potential financial penalties.
When verification processes are handled across multiple systems, the likelihood of mistakes increases. Documents may need to be downloaded, uploaded, or manually transferred between platforms, creating opportunities for missing data, formatting issues, or incomplete records.
By allowing the entire workflow to take place within the same platform used for hiring and onboarding, Workable aims to reduce those risks. Information entered during recruitment can flow directly into the verification process, minimizing duplicate entry and helping HR teams maintain a clearer, more consistent audit trail.
The approach also improves the overall onboarding experience for new employees. Instead of navigating multiple systems or receiving separate instructions from HR teams, new hires complete verification tasks as part of a unified onboarding process, helping organizations present a more streamlined and professional first interaction.
A Step Toward Automated Compliance
The launch of integrated I-9 and E-Verify capabilities reflects a broader trend in HR technology: consolidating complex compliance tasks within unified hiring and onboarding platforms.
As companies expand hiring across regions and regulatory frameworks grow more complex, HR teams are increasingly looking for ways to automate processes that have traditionally required manual oversight. Embedding compliance checks directly into onboarding workflows helps organizations maintain regulatory accuracy while reducing the administrative burden placed on hiring teams.
For Workable, the update expands the platformβs capabilities beyond recruitment and applicant tracking into deeper aspects of the employee lifecycle. By integrating compliance workflows directly into onboarding, the company is positioning the platform as a more comprehensive tool for managing the hiring journey from offer to first day.
The feature is available now for Workable customers in the U.S. through a credit-based pricing model. Organizations can purchase credits based on expected hiring volume and top up as needed, giving HR teams flexibility as hiring demand fluctuates.
