Typically a traditional PBX (telephone system) lasted 7-10 years before it needed to be replaced, nowadays with the rise of software based phone systems and cloud, we’d hope that this might be longer.
However, many would argue that innovation in telecoms software in fact shortens the lifetime of the system and if (software) upgrades are not carried out to the system reguarly, then you’ll be swapping it out sooner than you think.

Here’s some fun memory hooks for you:
1. The LCD screen of your office telephone looks like an 80’s Casio watch.
2. There’s a strange box in the cupboard that all the staff are scared of. Next to it is a US Robotics 56k modem (switched on).
3. Your telephone system’s music-on-hold sounds like Manic Miner.
4. Your Manager still asks you to change the ‘answer machine’ message for the Christmas holiday (it has a red LED display showing the number of messages)
5. BT are still sending you a paper bill and charging you for the privilege. You probably still pay by cheque…
6. Theres a button on the side of your telephone that switches from Pulse Dial to DTMF.
7. You’re probably still running Windows XP on your PC…
We don’t sell telephone systems, however you can find a directory of rated Telecoms suppliers in the UC Today Directory.
