Halloween is over, and the festive season is just around the corner.

While the weather might be cooling down, there’s still plenty of hot gossip to catch up on in the communications landscape. This week, we’ve seen new predictions for the growth of cloud comms.

What’s more, we’ve had the fantastic opportunity to speak with some of the market leaders like Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and Avaya about where they think the industry is heading next year.

If you haven’t had a chance to check out all stories on UC Today this week – don’t panic. We’ve gathered a collection of our favourite announcements from the last 7 days to share with you right here.

Cloud Communications Market will Triple in 5 Years

It’s no secret that the cloud has been a significant talking point for many leading companies in the communications industry lately. However, according to the Cavell group’s latest research, the growth rate could be even more incredible than we expected. Dominic Black, Head of Research for the Cavell Group, shared his thoughts on the group’s latest study. According to Dominic, the idea that the cloud communications market will triple in size over the next five years is a pretty common one, particularly as companies around the globe continue to move their tools off-premise.

“Penetration rates across the board are huge,”

according to Dominic, and although it takes a little time for any new technology to be fully adopted, we’re moving in the right direction.

Talking UC Trends with the GM of Microsoft Teams

As part of our Silicon Valley Tour this month, we had a fantastic opportunity to speak with some of the most amazing brands in the UC and collaboration space. That included an interview with the General Manager of Microsoft Teams, Lan Ye. Patrick Watson spoke to Lan about the growth of the collaboration market over the last year and asked for her unique insights into where the industry might be heading in 2020.

From within the heart of the Microsoft Teams office in Silicon Valley, we got an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the future for Microsoft and the Teams environment. You can see the full interview here.

Exploring the Future with Zoom’s CEO

Microsoft wasn’t the only industry leader that we visited when we were over in Silicon Valley this month. We also sent Patrick Watson over to Zoom’s headquarters, too, for a conversation with the CEO of one of the fastest-growing companies in the world. During his discussion with Eric Yuan, Zoom’s CEO, Patrick was able to learn more about the exceptional trajectory of the Zoom brand over 2019, and where the industry is heading in 2020.

As part of our Collaboration Trends Series, you can check out the full exclusive video interview for a unique behind-the-scenes peek of what emerging technologies Zoom believes are going to impact the industry in the year ahead.

Looking into 2020 with Avaya

We couldn’t resist a conversation with Avaya as part of our UC Trends 2020 series this month. We’ve followed the growth of the communications company closely over several years, through the Chapter 11 bankruptcy and beyond, to the new collaboration with RingCentral. Our interview between Nidal Abou-Ltaif, the President of Avaya International, and Patrick Watson will give you an exclusive overview of Avaya’s plans for the year ahead.

What’s more, during his conversation with Avaya, Patrick was also able to get some unique insights into where this communication giant thinks the industry will see the biggest evolution in the year to come. According to Nidal, one of the major trends for 2020 will be the demand for a greater degree of choice.

The Future is in Strategic Partnerships

Planning for the future and learning from the past have been two of the biggest trends that we’ve been focusing on here at UC Today this month. Going forward, we have our own predictions for how the industry is likely to evolve in 2020, and we believe that a big part of the UC&C sector’s success will rely on the emergence and growth of strategic partnerships.

As more companies struggle to provide their customers with the complete range of legacy and forward-thinking tools that they need, partnerships are the only way to combine the best of both worlds. It’s something that we’ve already seen with the collaboration between RingCentral and Avaya. Rob Scott gives his thoughts on the future of strategic partnerships here.
