Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) has been factored into the latest innovations to Google Meet, according to an Avocor exec.

Speaking at Barcelona ISE, Dana Carey, SVP at Avocor, told UC Today that credit should go to Google for recognising the number of devices that will need to connect to company communication systems and working to include them.

From a device hardware perspective, Google’s partner Avocor produces single cables for audio, 4k video, Ethernet, and power which can easily connect to a BYOD device.

Carey said: “We are working with Google on the equity side. We are trying to bring the quality experience to the device hardware, combine it with this software and deliver that experience.”

“You will see in the coming months these products are incredible. The quality of audio and video experience, the true voice integration, the integration of Google Meet, of course, interact with other platforms, and a single cable for BYOD.”

Mark Ewing, Group Product Manager at Google, said it has been busy making hybrid work innovations over the last two years. These changes include over 100 features such as chat, polls, and Q&A.

Ewing feels that although most people can now return to the office, it is not like before. Hybrid work has become the new normal, and he says Google is investing heavily in the versatility of hardware with its series one line.

A couple of devices he thinks compliment hybrid working are Red Dot award winners: Desk 27 and Board 65. These are all-in-one devices with touch screens and whiteboarding functionality built-in.

Ewing also spoke more generally about Google Meet: “One thing that’s unique about Google Meet in this space, not just Meet but the entire Google Workspace suite, is it brings deeply integrated experience into a full line of products to power the hybrid office.”

“Google Meet works seamlessly with Calendar for booking meetings and presenting documents and things like that.

“It’s important to have innovation in this space, especially now where things are changing so dynamically, and we’re all figuring out together what the future work is.”

Google Workspace released AI-based updates this month, designed to improve hybrid working.

Also this month, UC Today produced a guide to achieving better video conferencing with visual effects for Google Meet.
