Microsoft has named MetTel as a partner for Operator Connect for Microsoft Teams.

As an Operator Connect provider, MetTel will bring Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) connectivity to Teams.

The partnership means that Teams customers can select MetTel as an operator and access the MetTel network to call any number worldwide.

Marshall Aronow, CEO of MetTel, said:

“MetTel’s Operator Connect partnership provides the ability to leverage Teams comprehensively for voice services and eliminate redundant phone systems.

“This investment greatly expands and strengthens our UCaaS and collaboration portfolio.”

According to MetTel, the union with Microsoft will give their customers greater service reliability and fast, automated provisioning, with direct support through 24-hour customer service.

Ed Fox, CTO, MetTel, added: “We are very excited that Microsoft recognized MetTel’s network capabilities in choosing us as a partner for this select environment.

“Having a dedicated private interconnection with Microsoft provides additional quality, reliability and security for our customers and channel partners.”

Operator Connect has evolved quickly since its launch in March last year to now have more than 30 carriers accredited and offering the service to customers.

In June, Sinch was approved by Microsoft for the Operator Connect (OC) programme, allowing customers to utilise its voice services in Microsoft Teams.

It was also revealed that Sinch would be able to provide access to emergency services through the Teams’ voice platform.

Microsoft Teams users on July 21 were unable to use Teams chat or the features on the app due to a worldwide outage.

The company said a “recent deployment contained a broken connection to an internal storage service” caused the platform to go down.

It follows the company announcing various new features for Teams at Microsoft Inspire 2022.

Microsoft has announced changes to Teams chat, improved collaboration between users, improvements to Teams Rooms, and more.
