Microsoft has halted sales of all products and services in Russia over the countryβs invasion of Ukraine.Β
Β Brad Smith, President and Vice Chairman of Microsoft, also said that Microsoft is working in conjunction with the EU, US and UK to stop βmany aspectsβ of its existing operations in the country.Β
Β βLike the rest of the world, we are horrified, angered and saddened by the images and news coming from the war in Ukraine and condemn this unjustified, unprovoked and unlawful invasion by Russia,β he said.Β
Smith revealed that Microsoft has βacted against Russian positioning, destructive or disruptive measuresβ to prevent cyber attacks against 20 Ukrainian government, IT and financial businesses.Β
βWe have publicly raised our concerns that these attacks against civilians violate the Geneva Convention,β he added.Β
Microsoftβs move comes hot on the heels of other high-profile brands limiting services in Russia, such as Apple and Google.Β
Meanwhile, a number of comms providers. have taken steps to help Ukrainian citizens stay connected.Β
Earlier this week, the European Telecommunications Network Operatorsβ Association revealed that several telcos had removed fees for calling and data in the country, including BT, EE, O2 and Vodafone in the UK.Β
Oracle and Wildix has also turned off its services in Russia.Β
Microsoftβs Smith said that the vendorβs foundation is working with the Red Cross and the UN to deliver technological and financial support to refugees fleeing Ukraine.Β
Β βLike so many others, we stand with Ukraine in calling for the restoration of peace, respect for Ukraineβs sovereignty and the protection of its people,β he said.Β
