Mitel have announced the release of their flag ship unified communications product MiCollab.

Never heard of MiCollab? It’s a UC solution from Mitel which enables business users to collaborate on any device anywhere. MiCollab unifies voice, video, chat, team collaboration, conferencing and presence. MiCollab is best suited for Mitel’s MiVoice Business communications platform.

  • Consistent user experience across all devices
  • MiTeam for team collaboration
  • VIP launch pad for fast access to apps and contacts
  • VoIP softphone and CTI call control
  • Calendar Integration
  • Presence / chat / contacts
  • Location awareness
  • Simplified user deployment for your techies

Current clients are supported on Microsoft Windows browser (of your choice), Mac, iPad, iPhone and Android device. release 7 bring with it a new Web RTC client which enables the VoIP softphone to work in inside your browser without the need for software to be installed (really neat!).

What’s New in MiCollab 7.3?

Building on the feature richness of release 7, MiCollab version 7.3 continues to focus on user experience.

Android phone user enhancements

  • Improved Android experience – no need to unlock the phone to answer an incoming call
  • Set Bust state – whilst on a mobile network call the MiCollab software now tells other MiCollab users that the user is on a call (in a busy state)

iOS & Android phones

  • Users can now set the MiCollab app only to use the softphone if a WiFi connection is available and active. This avoids using the mobile’s data bundle for VoIP calls
  • You can now setup a 3 way conference call using the softphone app. This is supported on MiVoice Business, MiVoice MX-One and MiVoice 5000 platforms. Not supported on MiVoice Office 400.

MiCollab Web Client (Web RTC soft phone)

  • Event notifications when the client is minimises or out of view
  • Web RTC client softphone now supports video
  • New Hot Keys have been added to web and Mac client

MiTeam Enhancements

  • Premium UCC users with MiTeam now get guest access, which allows MiTeam users to invite external users to a MiTeam stream
  • MiTeam is now built into all apps except for the Windows MiCollab Client which is currently being re-developed (due out sometime soon)
  • Audio Web and Video conferencing (AWV) is now built into the new client interface which means unlike the old MiCollab you do not have to launch an external application for conferences.

Other Enhancements

  • Users can now create a MiCollab meeting right from Microsoft Outlook.
  • New languages have now been added: Mandarin, Arabic, Portuguese (Brazil)
  • Microsoft Exchange 2016 IMAP advanced support capacity is now 750 (was 500 users)
  • User password sync for Microsoft Office 365 advanced unified messaging users (voice mail to email)
  • Advanced Messaging integration for use with MiVoice MX-One customers (visual voice mail, resilience etc)
  • Search directory control – you can now search an external LDAP source. 100,000 contacts or more is supported. Additional security and access features have been added.
  • Self Deployment – users can now open up the web portal and click a new button called ‘Self Deployment’. This generates a QR code for the user to scan and download the software.

In summary, MiCollab 7.3 is a really impressive release which demonstrates Mitel’s commitment to R&D and remaining a leading unified communications vendor.
