Leading provider of voice-centric communications in the cloud, NFON, has announced a strategic partnership with Italian WebRTC company Meetecho. The partnership involves NFON acquiring a minority stake of 24.9% in Meetecho. Simultaneously, a collaboration agreement has been implemented to further the potential of the company’s “Janus” WebRTC server for both brands.

The CEO for NFON AG, Dr. Klaus von Rottkay says the move demonstrates the NFON company’s commitment to an evolving UC strategy. The new partnership with Meetecho gives the brand direct access to an industry-leading WebRTC solution, while accelerating the implementation of the UC strategy.

Meetecho was founded in 2009 as a spin-off from the Naples University, and it released the Janus WebRTC server as an open-source solution. In attention to commercial licensing and support, Meetecho also offers streaming and consulting services alongside the Janus server.

The Janus WebRTC Server

The Meetecho Janus server is based on the open web standard WebRTC, enabling real-time communication (which is crucial for video, data, and voice transmission). On this basis, powerful solutions for video and voice communication are easy to create.

A modular, multi-functional design and proven performance ensures the WebRTC server (Janus) can be deployed for companies like Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise, IETF, Alibaba Cloud, Twitter, and Highfive. According to the RTC Evangelist and Co-Founder of Meetecho, Simon Pietro Romano, Meetecho is globally recognised as an expert in real-time communications. The NFON brand is a powerful partnership opportunity for Meetecho with its huge customer base and strong sales and marketing environment.

Together, the two companies will be working hard to further develop the marketing and growth of the Meetecho product portfolio. CEO for Meetecho, Tobia Castaldi said that the WebRTC server will stay at the heart of the company’s business activities, so nothing should change for the community, and the brand’s users. However, clients will benefit from the NFON partnership.

NFON and Meetecho Join Forces

According to Jan-Peter Koopmann, the CTO for NFON AG, NFON’s Cloudya product ensures it can offer a flexible and efficient platform for professional voice-centric communications, on which companies can switch between video, telephony, and chat, easily and intuitively. The NFON brand wants to become the leading provider for voice-centric business communication and add UC and contact centre solutions going forward.

The strategic partnership with Meetecho offers NFON the opportunity to accelerate the expansion of its video tech stack through targeted knowledge transfer and product development. The service and collaboration agreement between the two companies will secure NFON access to industry know-how and a powerful WebRTC server.
