It’s not often Manchester United and Liverpool football fans share the same common goal but best friends Scott Baron and Craig Hoyland enjoyed a winning result together – raising hundreds of pounds for charity in the process.
The pair successfully completed a 34 mile walk from Anfield to Old Trafford – taking 11 hours – as part of a marathon charity challenge throughout this year in support of Beating Bowel Cancer and the Blue Apple Heroes war veterans’ charity.
Scott is a Business Manager at communications specialist Nimans and has devised ‘Scott’s Dirty Dozen’, a series of 12 gruelling charity challenges such as cycling around Anglesey, a 10km army obstacle course and completing the Three Peaks mountain adventure challenge.
“I’ve always wanted to do something for charity and I’m not one to do things by half. So this year I’m going to push myself and lots of different friends to the limit. The Anfield to Old Trafford walk is just the start. It took even longer than normal after I took a wrong turn. But it just goes to show that despite our football rivalries Manchester United and Liverpool fans can come together in a very powerful and productive way.”
The duo set off at 6am and finished the walk at 5pm. They were joined by ‘cameraman’ Nick Owen, a former Royal Marine who posted live Facebook updates along the route.
