Avaya have been in the midst of some stressful experiences lately, thanks to their Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing. Financial turmoil has left the entire company in a state of uncertainty, and it’s not just Avaya that’s worried – shareholders and consumers have expressed anxiety too. Fortunately, the CEO for ScanSource, Mike Baur has offered a little reassurance to the flailing business in response to their coming crisis, with a few words during the ScanSource earnings call conducted on the 7th of February 2017.

Baur commented that in January, Avaya filed voluntarily for petitions under Chapter 11 of the United States bankruptcy code in an attempt to protect the company and position it for further growth in the future. Currently, ScanSource are fully committed to supporting Avaya and additional partners in the business as usual, and they have seen no disruption in the support and resources they receive from Avaya.

Reassurance at a Critical Stage

Though the statement issued by Mike Baur was only brief, it comes as a significant source of reassurance at a critical time for both Avaya customers and partners. Certain media sites up until this point have been dramatically comparing the bankruptcy filing by Avaya to the dramatic implosion we saw with Nortel during 2009. However, the truth is that the problem may not be as bad as some sources are making it out to be.

Additionally, ShoreTel CEO Don Joos has suggested that his company will begin to capitalise on the spiral of problems that Avaya has been having – a dramatic and bold claim considering the fact that ShoreTel has pretty much been up for sale itself since the beginning of August 2016.

Right now, Avaya are simply focusing their efforts on finding a way to survive in an increasingly dangerous financial situation. The executives for the company are working on addressing the understandable concerns and questions that customers have. For instance, the Corporate Treasurer for Avaya, John Sullivan recently explained the chapter 11 filing conducted by Avaya and insisted that the business is still healthy and performing well, despite that drastic financial decision.
