Recorded – as part of UC Trends 2020 – during GITEX 2019 Patrick was joined by special guests Nidal Abou-Ltaif, Ahmed Helmy and Steve Joyner from Avaya.

Firstly Patrick asks Nidal Abou-Ltaif, President of Avaya International, about some of the major trends that have been impacting Avaya and its provision of products and services in its international markets. Nidal explains that the trends are not only impacting Avaya but all technology providers.

The main trend that Nidal recognises is the demand from customers for a greater degree of choice, whether that be in terms of solutions or in terms of consumption models. Integration is a also becoming an increasingly important factor, the rise of social media has created a demand for video first capabilities and being able to integrate these into business processes is crucial. Balancing all of these demands with enterprise requirements for security and compliance is tricky as Nidal explains.

Ahmed Helmy, Avaya International’s Vice President and CTO, expands on the balance between user demands and security. He explains that security and compliance is considered at every stage of a technology deployment from Avaya. Steve Joyner who is Avaya’s Managing Director for the UK and Ireland tells Patrick how this is impacting Avaya’s approach with channel partners in his region.

When it comes to emerging technologies – such as artificial intelligence and IoT – Avaya has been making a concerted effort to provide its partners and end customer with tangible use cases to clearly demonstrate the value than can be gleaned. These cutting edge solutions are now more widely available to smaller businesses when historically they might have been something confined to large enterprises. Ahmed explains that the use of emerging technologies has to be linked to improvements in productivity.

Patrick then asks Nidal about what he thinks will be the fastest growing trends over the next 12 months. Nidal tells Patrick that demands to improve customer experience will be vital and Avaya have reacted to this with the launch of several new products including its new CCaaS platform.

Ahmed believes that this demand will increase requirement for hybrid cloud models and that Avaya can offer its customers a route to cloud by leveraging some of its integration features such as APIs and SDKs. Simplifying a customer’s migration to the cloud has been a key focus for Avaya when developing its solutions.
