Zoom has reported another blockbuster quarter, with sales rocketing 191 per cent year on year to $956.2m.

The growth came despite a tough comparison quarter last year (the three months ending 30 April), when businesses turned to Zoom at the start of the pandemic.

Zoom CEO, Eric Yuan, said that he expects demand for Zoom’s offering to continue as businesses return to offices and a hybrid working culture develops.

“As parts of the world reopened, a few things are clear,” he said.

“First, many customers I talk to are looking to create hybrid solutions as they seek to cautiously reopen some offices. Second, each industry, company and individual vary in their optimal working model. Zoom is here to help each customer calibrate their future working model in their own way.

“Many companies are redesigning the workplace to enhance the hybrid work experience”

“So, to meet this need, we announced Zoom Rooms features such as smart gallery, which puts in-room and remote participants in equal footing, virtual receptionist, participant counting, and environmental sensors.”

Zoom said that at the end of the quarter it had 265,400 customers with more than 10 employees, up 354 per cent from the same quarter last year.

It also has 769 customers contributing over $100,000 towards sales on a trailing 12-month basis.

Zoom Phone’s rapid growth has continued, rising from one million seats at the end of 2020 to 1.5 million at the end of April.

Yuan said that Zooms Apps is what he is most excited about seeing develop over the next few years. Zoom recently opened up its platform to developers via its SDK and announced a $100m app development fund.

The CEO also hinted at a development in the contact centre space. Earlier this year it was rumoured that Zoom could look to acquire a contact centre provider but the vendor has remained tight-lipped.

“When it comes to contact centre, this is part of our UC platform, right, and that’s the reason why I mention that Zoomtopia is scheduled September 13 and 14. Stay tuned,” he said.

“You will see something. Hopefully, we can do something around the contact centre. Again, that’s also the big market.”
