Avaya to ‘Significantly’ Cut UK Staffing and Close Flagship Office in Middle East

According to a company source, rumours of redundancies at Avaya are set to materialise, with a significant portion of its UK workforce reportedly facing layoffs. Following a round of recent job cuts in the US, the layoffs are now spreading across Avaya’s global operations, including substantial downsising in Europe and the Middle East.

The UK office appears to be the next target. The delay is attributed to the country’s more complex redundancy process.

“I suspect what we are seeing in the UK/EU is bringing that region into alignment with the rest of the company,” said Zeus Kerravala, Principal Analyst at ZK Research, commenting on the situation.

Meanwhile, sources close to UC Today have revealed that Avaya is planning to close its Dubai offices as part of its strategy to focus on the global 1500 enterprises.

The news emerged earlier this week when employees received a memo announcing the closure. The memo stated, “After careful consideration, the executive team has made the decision to close the Dubai office. Effective March 7th, 2025, all Dubai employees will transition to work from home.”

The communication emphasised that the transition would be smooth, with no expected impact on teams’ productivity or their ability to support customer and business needs. It also included instructions for employees on working from home, including staying contactable during core hours.

These pieces of news come as Avaya undergoes a global restructuring under new CEO Patrick Dennis. Dennis succeeded Alan Masarek and focused on stabilizing the company’s finances.

Microsoft Unveils Facebook-Like ‘Storyline’ Feature For Teams, Reportedly Offers Tweak To Office-Teams Price In New EU Antitrust Twist

Microsoft has unveiled Storyline for Teams, a new feature that allows users to share updates and engage with colleagues in a way that resembles the news feed on Facebook. Built on Viva Engage, this tool enables employees to post company announcements, project milestones, and personal achievements.

Similar to social media platforms, Storyline allows users to follow coworkers and interact with their posts through likes and comments. To access Storyline, navigate to the Teams Chat section, where you can create posts alongside messages and channel updates. These updates are displayed in a dedicated Storyline tab on user profiles, making it easy for others to subscribe and stay informed.

In other Microsoft news, the tech giant has reportedly offered to change the price difference between Office and Teams in the latest twist in the EU’s ongoing antitrust probe into the tech giant.

Reuters, which cites three sources close to the story, is reporting that the Redmond-based vendor is attempting to satisfy the European Commission’s investigation into Microsoft’s allegedly anticompetitive practices to avoid a potentially substantial fine.
