Formally known by businesses and consumers across the globe as “Siemens Home and Office Communication Devices” Gigaset emerged as an individual multinational communication company, headquartered in Munich, Germany. Today, Gigaset is the most active company in the industry of communications technology, as one of the world’s largest manufacturers of cordless phones, and the market leader in Europe for DECT phones. Gigaset has approximately 1,250 employees, and sells products within around 70 different countries.

The Gigaset Portfolio includes fixed-network phones, VoIP devices, software solutions, and products for home media. Under the title “Gigaset Pro” the business markets and develops telephony options for medium and small business enterprises. Under the title “Gigaset Elements”, the company sells products for the smart home, such as the Gigaset G-Tag, or “Elements starter kit”.

The History of Gigaset Communications

Gigaset Communications is a brand with a robust global presence. The company employs hundreds of staff members across seventy countries, and has continued to grow and expand its product portfolio since it was established on October 1st, 2008. The Gigaset Communications brand came to life for the first time when Argues Industries (a private equity firm), purchased an 80.2% equity interest in the Siemens Home and Office Communication Devices sector. The acquisition cost 45 million euros.

Though Gigaset Communications only became a recognisable business presence in 2008, it has had a strong influence on the development of cordless telephony solutions ever since the beginning of the 1990s, back when it was a part of the Siemens Home and Office Communication Devices company. Gigaset are responsible for helping to develop the DECT standard for wireless communication, which is now established around the world, as well as the integrated answering machine, SMS text messaging, and hands-free communication.

Over the years, Gigaset have been quick to add new data innovations into its product collection, initially on DECT and later through HomeRF. In recent years, one of the most notable developments has been Eco DECT, – a system present throughout the full Gigaset portfolio, allowing Gigaset phones to offer exceptional energy efficiency, combined with low radiation.

Gigaset are also leaders in the IP telephony and IP service industry, with user-friendly hybrid phones that can be utilised across LAN connections and fixed networks. The very first certified phone to embody the CAT-iq standard was the Siemens Gigaset, helping to define the brand as a leader in quality, functionality, and ease-of-use. Over time, many Gigaset phones have been awarded prizes for their timelessly elegant designs, including the red dot award.

The Gigaset Communication Portfolio

Today, Gigaset develop and implement numerous products for small office and home use, including:

  • Smart home security sensors: designed and produced through Gigaset Elements
  • Corded phones: analogue phones offered through the “Euroset” brand
  • VoIP phones: some can offer free calls through the Gigaset.net SIP network
  • Cordless phones: thanks to their specialisation in DECT technology, Gigaset is the European market leader for wireless phones and ISDN phones.

Gigaset.net

Gigaset.net is a free service for communication provided through Gigaset to customers that purchase specific VoIP phones. Through their devices, users can edit nicknames, search for friends, and make wideband audio calls to other users for free. The only requirement to use this system is a broadband connection. The Gigaset.net network also offers free RSS subscriptions to services called “Info Service”. The basic services offered are horoscope and weather, but users can add custom RSS feeds.

Eco DECT and Eco DECT plus

Gigaset were responsible for the development of Eco DECT and Eco DECT Plus developments, which allows for the elimination of radio wave transmissions when the device is charging – saving 60-80% of energy over standard phones. This means that using the switched-mode power supply unit consumes less power, and the transmission power is reduced.

Thanks to Eco DECT and Eco DECT Plus, consumers can benefit from a “green” environmentally-friendly approach to business communication applications.

Cat-iq

Gigaset incorporates cordless advanced technology, internet and quality, or Cat-iq on several their VoIP phones. All Gigaset phones that support HDSP are compliant with Cat-iq. This technology initiative became the standard for IP voice services in next-generation networks, based on the DECT technology standard framework.

High Sound Performance

Gigaset developed “HSP”, or High Sound Performance to ensure that they could give their clients higher sound quality for clarity and smooth performance on land-line analogue phones. Gigaset also use High Definition sound performance to enable an even greater sound quality than HSP, though this is not applicable to standard land-line phone users. The service is only available to VoIP customers, and the phones require a broadband connection.

For a range of companies across the world, Gigaset represents a comprehensive approach to communication solutions.
