Avaya’s new Experience Builders ecosystem will unify the process for developers as businesses look to create composable communication infrastructures, according to industry analyst Zeus Kerravala.

Avaya unveiled the new concept at the Gitex tech conference this week, explaining that it will bring together its services, partners and developers into one single ecosystem – making it easier for businesses to build on top of the Avaya OneCloud platform.

Speaking to UC Today’s David Dungay at the event in Dubai, Kerravala said that the concept of composable infrastructure is growing in prominence in the communications industry.

“This is new to communications but it’s not new to general IT,” he explained.

“A lot of the application world has already moved to composability. CRM is a great example and Salesforce has been composable for a long time. You have stock Salesforce for most users but then there’s a low-code interface for line-of-business managers to quickly create widgets and unique applications.

“I think the communications industry has lagged by a couple of years, mostly because of the important nature of it; you don’t want to screw up your call centre! But now companies have moved to cloud-native backends, we can bring this concept of composability”

The Experience Builder ecosystem brings together strands of Avaya’s developer community that typically had been siloed – typically there had been separate programmes for third-party software vendors, systems integrators and end-users.

Kerravela said that moving to one programme makes sense for Avaya because of its shift to a composable cloud company with its OneCloud platform.

“The whole concept behind composability is to be able to quickly build applications through different experiences,” he added.

“I might take an end-user, a partner and software developer and bring them together in a single application.

“To do that, I need to have a programme that brings all those experiences together; Experience Builders unifies those experiences and allows us to quickly build new experiences to service any use case.”
