The London Academy of Music & Dramatic Art (LAMDA) has partnered with Shure to upgrade its audio technology for next-gen training of audio professionals.

Renowned for its exceptional vocational training courses, LAMDA, a world-class conservatoire, is dedicated to nurturing aspiring actors in an innovative and inspiring environment. LAMDA is announcing a significant announcement in Shure’s Axient Digital Wireless System, as supplied by Autograph Sound, enabling the next generation of theatre audio technicians and designers to leverage leading audio technology at LAMDA.

“With the introduction of LAMDA’s new Musical Theatre MA Course, it was a great time to invest in a radio mic system for the future,” said Chris Drohan, Lead Practitioner (Technical) Sound at LAMDA.

Having explored a number of options, we were impressed with the Axient Digital Wireless System that Shure offers, for its reliability, sound quality and user-friendly nature in a student environment. The support from both Autograph and Shure through the planning process has been excellent and the system we have ended up with has already proven its worth on our public performances.”

LAMDA upgraded its facilities with cutting-edge equipment from Shure UK. This new inventory comprises 20 channels of Shure’s premier Axient Digital Wireless system. The setup includes Axient Digital ADX1M Micro Bodypack transmitters, AD4QNP quad receivers, an antenna distribution system, active directional antennas, and battery charging modules and stations.

“At Shure, we recognise the importance of supporting students in the early stages of their careers,” added Shure’s UK Sales Manager, Peppe Mallozzi. “With Shure Axient Digital Wireless System being widely used in the industry, LAMDA’s investment in Shure was the natural choice, aligning perfectly with industry standards, ensuring students are well-prepared for the professional world.”

Will Cottrell, Autograph’s lead for the LAMDA project, explained that the system configured for LAMDA will be used for the numerous in-house shows they produce annually. By investing in its own equipment instead of renting, LAMDA aims to reduce long-term costs.

They will utilise various configurations of the Shure Axient Digital Wireless System based on the specific needs of each show, offering students valuable hands-on experience with industry-standard technology.

“With some assistance from our friends at Shure UK we were able to deliver a modular system within their budget that can easily be expanded in the future if requirements and budget allow,” Cottrell expanded.

Autograph Sound’s recommendation of the Shure Axient Digital Wireless System was founded on its extensive utilisation of the systems within its hire department. With an inventory of over 600 channels in daily operation across the West End, nationally, and on tour, Autograph Sound has firsthand experience and expertise with Shure’s leading-edge technology.

This real-world knowledge enabled the company to offer guidance and support in recommending, supplying, and commissioning the Shure Axient Digital Wireless System to LAMDA.
