Idyllic Finnish mountaintop hotel Panorama Landscape Hotel is aiming to elevate hospitality by leveraging Genelec’s audio solutions throughout its site.

Kuopio’s Panorama Landscape Hotel is situated at the top of Mountain Tahko ski resort, overlooking expansive forests with luxury spas and guest suites. The hotel was designed by local entrepreneurs Harri Jokela and Katja Kuulusa and embodies the hallmarks of Nordic architecture. It features intricate wood interiors and is equipped with RAW Genelec Smart IP loudspeakers throughout the premises to enhance guests’ auditory experience.

Genelec highlights that sound played a crucial role in the project, both in terms of acoustics and aesthetics. Local integrators Viking Pro, who had previously collaborated with the Panorama team on another restaurant, were brought on board to preserve the brand’s premium sound legacy.

Juha Jäppinen, co-owner of Viking Pro, commented:

They wanted a Finnish audio brand to fit with their philosophy of heritage and innovation. The loudspeakers were to be used in the suites, as well as in the restaurant, indoor spa areas, meeting room, lobby and toilets. We selected Genelec because the brand offers solutions that are modern and attractive. The RAW finish of the Smart IP models fits perfectly with the hotel’s design.”

The planning for Panorama Landscape Hotel began in 2018, with the construction funded by investments from Finnish motorsport legends, former rally champion Tommi Mäkinen and former Formula 1 titleholder Kimi Räikkönen.

Inspired by Japanese onsen spas, the vision was to build a hotel that blends the great outdoors with local design and tradition. The hotel features ten individual suites, a natural forest spa, and the Havu Kitchen and Bar, led by renowned chef Kim Mustonen.

More Specifics On The Hotel’s Audio Installation

In the restaurant, Genelec installed six 4430 Smart IP loudspeakers in a RAW aluminium finish, along with two 7050 studio subwoofers to ensure smooth low-frequency performance. This setup complements the Finnish fusion cuisine and space’s overall design.

While the speakers primarily provide background music, they can also connect to wireless microphones for meetings and announcements when needed. Adjacent to the restaurant is a meeting room available for corporate events, where Genelec installed two additional 4430 models in black.

“In the lobby of the spa, we chose two more black 4430s – while the toilets and changing rooms are equipped with two ultra-compact RAW 4410 loudspeakers,” Jäppinen said. “Each of the ten suites has its own Genelec system, too. Two 4020 installation loudspeakers in the RAW finish are connected to a TV, with additional Bluetooth receiver connectivity if guests want to play music from their own devices. Three black 4430s also deliver background music to the reception and lobby area.”

Viking Pro chose a weather-proof loudspeaker solution for the outdoor pool and spa, integrating these with the Genelec models via an LD Systems Dante audio interface, which serves as the network hub for the entire system.

Jäppinen outlined that Smart IP loudspeakers are practical to work with because everything is sent over a single CAT cable: audio, power, and management, making installation simple. Genelec also used Smart IP Manager software to aid configuration and room equalisation.

Genelec emphasised that Smart IP Manager is essential for integrators aiming to maximise the potential of their Genelec system. The company says it facilitates easy installation in any acoustic environment, enabling analysis and corrective equalisation of problematic room acoustics.

Alongside the Smart IP Manager software, Viking Pro utilised Smart IP’s public API to create a custom tablet for straightforward system control. This tablet allows staff to access different zones and instantly adjust volume levels or content

“Panorama Hotel was an interesting project from an audio point of view because the design of the space guided the design of the system,” Jäppinen said.

“Genelec is a local brand that’s built on heritage, which was important. It’s a huge bonus that the loudspeakers sound so good. This project has been in the pipeline for a long time, and the feedback so far has been excellent. Genelec has really helped create a harmonious experience across the entire complex.”
