ClickView is a learning video solutions provider based out of Australia. The company was founded in 2003 to improve student engagement and e-learning through the power of video, and it has continued to deliver on this promise. Over the years, it has created a robust repository of learning materials and launched the ClickView TV service for on-demand educational content. The company announced a free service in the face of school closures last year and found the ClickView app for Microsoft Teams in March of 2021.

While the ClickView product is meant for school and higher education, its Teams app opens up a new world of possibilities. Essentially, it gives users a convenient and easy way to embed video content into Teams chat or channels — helping in employee onboarding, subject matter discussions, e-learning, mandatory training sessions, and more. To achieve this, ClickView for Teams supports video fetching from the ClickView Library, Exchange, and Workspace, where users can put together a handy repository of relevant video materials for themselves and their team, and for employees or students.

ClickView also enables a degree of interactivity to drive learning retention and engagement. Let us review the features in detail.

Inside ClickView for Microsoft Teams

The easiest way to install ClickView is from Microsoft AppSource. Users need to open the site and search for ClickView; they will also find the download link at the end of this review.

The ClickView app for Microsoft Teams enables the following features:

  • Link unfurling: When users copy-paste a ClickView URL into Teams, the integration will allow automatic link unfurling. This means that instead of the link alone, Teams users will be able to see a brief snapshot of the ClickView content, including the content title and the first couple of lines of the description.
  • Embedding ClickView videos in chat: The ClickView app makes it easier to look up videos directly from the Teams app and share them in line with chat or channel conversations. From the ClickView messaging extension right below the message compose area, users can open the ClickView library dialogue box. They then need to type in their search query and select the video content they need to share directly in chat.
  • Video playback in Teams: Once they’ve shared the video, channel members can choose to “see more” to understand the video better. Or, they can directly click on the Play Video button to initiate playback without leaving the Teams app.
  • Video-based questions: This new feature helps users test video engagement and ensure that the knowledge is retained. For example, users can embed an actual/false question at a specific point in the video duration that their audience must answer as they move ahead. The embedded questions feature is particularly relevant for learning content where they want to maintain consistent levels of engagement.
  • Pinned ClickView tabs: Users can also add the ClickView app as a tab in a channel. This makes their selected video persistently available to channel members — they can navigate to the account anytime and play the video. To use this feature, users need to click on the + sign in the channel tab area, and choose the relevant video from their ClickView library, workspace, or playlist via the dialogue box. Then they need to save the settings, and a new tab containing the video title and content will appear next to the channel.
  • Integration with the rest of the Microsoft ecosystem: Besides Microsoft Teams, ClickView also supports Microsoft OneNote, allowing users to embed ClickView content in their in their OneNote notebook directly. Users can simply copy-paste a ClickView link in OneNote to have it unfurled as a playbook video snapshot.

Why the ClickView App Makes a Difference

ClickView provides instructors — and even learners — with an easy way to create video repositories that are accessible and shareable. Users can leverage the app to develop a knowledge base for their team or organisation, accessing ClickView content from Microsoft Teams when referring to a piece of information, fact, or previous experience. Besides education (its primary use case), ClickView has enormous potential for video-enabled knowledge management.

What We Think

Companies looking to record and share information through video consider ClickView, in addition to educational institutions and L&D practitioners. It has a very short learning curve and nearly zero technical prerequisites — download the ClickView app here
