Salesforce has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Convergence.ai in a move that opens up Salesforce and its UC platform, Slack, to new generative AI assistant capabilities that can spin up agents.
The announcement also covers advancements to Salesforce’s Agentforce pricing model.
“The next wave of customer interaction and employee productivity will be driven by highly capable AI agents that can navigate the complexities of today’s digital work,”
Adam Evans, EVP and GM of Salesforce AI Platform, said.
Salesforce’s acquisition will give it access to Convergence.ai’s innovative approach to building adaptive, intelligent agents.
Convergence.ai’s Abilities
Convergence.ai is an AI research lab specializing in developing advanced AI systems capable of performing complex, human-like tasks in digital environments.
The organization is known for releasing tools such as “Proxy,” an AI agent designed to showcase the lab’s capabilities in autonomous AI systems.
Connected to the web, Proxy creates agents on a per-request basis.
The AI agents can navigate the dynamic interfaces of the web and adapt in real time to challenges such as pop-ups and errors to complete multi-step workflows.
For instance, you can ask it to post on social media or research a topic, and it creates an agent or agents to do the job.
The vendor also has expertise in AI agent design, autonomous task execution, and adaptive system development.
Ostensibly, Salesforce’s acquisition is about technology, but the company explained how it goes beyond that.
Convergence.ai’s employees will “play a key role in advancing Salesforce’s broader AI roadmap,” Salesforce said in a press release.
“We are thrilled to welcome their talented team to Salesforce, and we look forward to their contributions in helping Agentforce deliver AI that truly transforms how work gets done,” Evans said.
Agentforce Pricing and Slack Potential
In a media email, Salesforce said Convergence.ai will bring expertise in AI agent design, autonomous task execution, and adaptive systems.
Already, Salesforce has its own agentic AI system, Agentforce, yet this suggests they are looking to augment it further with new abilities.
Agentforce allows organizations to build and deploy autonomous AI agents to automate tasks and augment human workflows across various departments.
These agents operate independently, retrieving data, building action plans, and executing tasks without human intervention.
Salesforce has already integrated the newest version of Agentforce directly into Slack, allowing AI to carry out multistep actions and advanced reasoning within workflows.
Yet, the integration of Convergence.ai’s abilities into its Agentforce could enable these agents to access information from outside the Slack workflow to complete tasks.
However, with the Convergence.ai deal not predicted to close until the middle of 2026, Salesforce will update its new pricing model for Agentforce before any effects come into place.
Despite Salesforce having closed 5,000 Agentforce deals in five months, the company is still looking to push further with its sales.
Salesforce has previously changed its pricing on Agentforce.
Last year at its Dreamforce conference, CEO Marc Benioff said pricing would be $2 per conversation.
The company has since switched to what it calls the “Flex Credit” plan, where 100,000 credits cost $500, and actions agents take cost 20 credits, or $0.10.
All Salesforce customers on Enterprise Edition subscriptions or higher can get their first 100,000 Flex Credits free through Salesforce Foundations.
An Agentic AI Race
There is a lot of buzz around the term “agentic AI” in the UC sphere.
Companies are trying to capitalize on what they think their customers see as the future of AI and the cost savings it could bring.
UC company Dialpad went as far as to announce a strategic vision for agentic AI without any specific mentions of releases or new technology.
