In the AI race currently going on in the enterprise ecosphere, companies are racing to outcompete their competitors by finding features that can give them the edge.
As a result, UC companies have often been on the frontline of this effort. With UC platforms being one of the main ways that a company’s employees interact with AI, they have introduced new features to entice companies to choose them over their competitors.
Microsoft Teams and Zoom have often proved front runners in this regard.
Not only do their AIs offer a raft of features—summarization, copilot, enhanced search, etc.—but their seamless integration of AI features into their platforms has made them an attractive option for those looking to introduce AI into their workflows.
However, Google Workspace has announced an update that could see its AI abilities reign supreme above the others.
Deep Research: Google Workspace’s Winning Ticket?
Google Workspace is a web browser-based UC solution. Google has a massive position in AI, both in its development and its infrastructure, and as a result, has been able to create its own AI products that it is able to natively embed in its solutions.
One of them is the recently announced Gemini Deep Research. Built off its Gemini AI system, Deep Research, in a nutshell, browses the web on your behalf to find information.
It leverages advanced AI capabilities to automate the process of gathering, analyzing, and synthesizing information from across the web.
Users can input complex queries, and Gemini creates a multi-step research plan, refines its findings through iterative searches, and delivers comprehensive reports with key insights and links to original sources.
This tool is ideal for tasks such as competitor analysis and industry trend exploration. It organizes findings into exportable formats like Google Docs and supports follow-up questions for further refinement.
Its integration into Google Workspace allows you to export the resulting reports directly to Google Docs with one click.
For those that use Google Workspace apps, this is an incredibly helpful and natural integration.
What’s more, Google just recently announced that Gemini Deep Research is now for general use, and they have expanded its use for all categories of Workspace users.
This means that Business Starter and Enterprise Starter users can now receive access to Deep Research through Google Workspace.
What this means is that Google Workspace now stands as one of the only UC platforms that has a natively integrated Agentic AI solution at its disposal.
Will Deep Research Make it a Deciding Factor?
Currently, the market is abuzz with interest in Agentic AI; Enterprise Connect has seen a raft of announcements on it.
Thus, Google’s early entry with Agentic AI is currently a USP in the market. Yet, there are limitations to its use. Although an Agentic AI solution, its application does not run across the platform.
Equally, despite being accessible via Google Workspace under the new plans included in the Deep Research update, its use is limited to five reports per user per 30-day period (higher plans offer more usage).
Therefore, although these AI capabilities bring Google Workspace new functionalities, its more specific application plus restrictions mean it might not be enough of a sell for some.
Yet for those who use their UC systems in an arena like marketing or product delivery might want to take another look.
Its ability to analyze over 100 sources per query; generate detailed research reports in minutes with citations and links to original sources, and seamlessly export results into Google Docs or Sheets might provide enough enhancements that Google Workspace becomes worth the switch.
