The JPL Explore, JPL Telecom’s upgraded version of their Element X500 wireless DECT headset, is finally out; and it’s got some refreshing updates for users.

The new and improved variant was born out of paying close attention to feedback from users on the previous version, and it definitely shows. It puts an even greater emphasis on all-day wearing, and offers the revamped look and feel, better audio, a more intuitive user experience and even a brand new conference function.

Shall we dig into the details, then?

Improved Comfort, Better Sound, Added Functionalities

Since the pandemic came along, extra-comfortable headsets designed for all-day wearing became a necessity. JPL’s new Explore version takes perfect care of that aspect with its revamped headband.

“Physical comfort has been improved massively here,” shares Jonathan Nuttall, UK Sales Manager at JPL Telecom. “This version has a new headband shape with a padded cushion for better all-day comfort, and we have added a soft leatherette cushion to the T bar and put larger softer ear cushions and gimbals for better fitting on the ear.”

Improvements have been made in the sound department as well.

“We’ve got a brand new digital sound processor, which means better noise cancellation than the previous version. The speech is even clearer now,” shares Thomas Clarke, Product Manager at JPL Telecom.

The Explore also presents some valuable new functionalities that didn’t exist in the previous version.

“We’ve changed the appearance with a few coloured buttons, which makes for much more intuitive use, allowing quicker response,” Clarke adds. “We’ve also added the ability for the user to turn off mute beeps, and disable auto-answer for people who need time to put their headset on before picking up the call.”

A Unique, Future-Proof Modular System

Being a Wireless DECT headset makes the Explore a perfect product for office use, allowing a larger range, increased security and zero interference compared to Bluetooth. This makes it great for small offices, call centres, technical support teams, or anyone in need of a relatively wide range of motion while keeping their headset on.

But other than its standard EHS connection for desk phones, what makes Explore special is its unique modular system, both in terms of headband design and in terms of connectivity.

“You can change the headband from single ear to dual-ear at any given time in case you need to make a high-concentration call, which can be hugely beneficial,” Nuttall explains.

“And it also means lower cost of ownership for customers. If the headband breaks out of warranty, they don’t have to buy a whole new headset, but just that one part.”

The same goes for cases where you replace a staff member during COVID and need to provide the new staff member with a new headset for sanitary reasons.

“Instead of buying the new employee a whole new headset, you can replace just the headband, since it’s the only part of the headset that touches the skin.”

But what is arguably the most exciting aspect of Explore is its modular drawer system. This system actually allows the user to turn the headset into USB or Bluetooth with minimal effort and cost, which effectively makes it future proof.

“As soon as a company wants to go onto a UC environment, all they need to do is put in the modular USB drawer, and they’ve got a great USB headset for a low cost.”

Both the modular drawer system and the modular headband of the Explore are patented by JPL, which makes this headset entirely unique to them. This also means that they’re able to give the product security, which is extremely valuable for resellers.

And regarding the global chipset shortage that’s been making headlines, JPL reassures their customers that they have nothing to worry about.

“We’ve actually got an amazing supply of chipsets, so our DECT headsets are not going to run out,” Nuttall promises.
