Former RingCentral President and Chief Operating Officer (COO) Anand Eswaran has turned up at cloud data management vendor Veeam Software as CEO, after announcing his departure last week.
Eswaran said on the news of him leaving RingCentral that he wasn’t going to a direct competitor of RingCentral, and that’s now confirmed. Veeam provides backup, recovery and data management solutions, including ones that can protect data in unified communications platforms.
Eswaran spent less than two years at RingCentral, and his replacement has so far not been announced.
Veeam is trumpeting its gain. “Eswaran joins Veeam from a successful tenure at RingCentral, overseeing exponential growth and customer expansion,” it said after announcing his arrival this afternoon. “In the company’s most recent financial results under Eswaran’s leadership, it reported an ARR (annual run rate) of $1.6bn, a 39 percent increase year-over-year.”
Veeam crossed a $1bn ARR this year and has over 400,000 customers. Eswaran is replacing Bill Largent as CEO at Veeam and joins the board. Largent will instead focus on his other role of Chairman of the Veeam Board.
Largent said of his replacement:
“Anand brings extensive experience in developing new business models, executing on market expansion and driving growth with an inclusive purpose-led and people-first culture.
“To have someone with Anand’s experience on board will lead us into a new era of success, as we further accelerate into the cloud and evaluate the opportunity for Veeam to be a publicly traded company in the future.”
On his arrival, Eswaran said: “Veeam is a unique company that is growing significantly faster than the market. I am joining a talented team at an exciting time in its journey.
“Data management, security and protection are pivotal to the way organisations operate today, and failure to have a robust strategy can be catastrophic. Veeam has a unique opportunity to break away as we sit in the middle of the data ecosystem, with the most robust ransomware protection and ability to protect data wherever it may reside,” Eswaran said.
At RingCentral, he led the products, engineering, sales, marketing, services, customer care, IT and human resources functions. Prior to RingCentral, Eswaran was Corporate Vice President for Microsoft’s Global Enterprise Business.
Before Microsoft, Eswaran was Executive Vice President of Global Services at SAP, and has held other senior roles at HP, Vignette and Braun Consulting.
Last month, RingCentral became Mitel’s “exclusive UCaaS partner” after the pair announced a new alliance. The deal sees Mitel nudge its 35m users towards RingCentral’s MVP (Message Video Phone) platform.
