Tap My Back is an employee engagement and recognition tool launched in 2015. It was the product of a Lisbon-based startup studio called Build Up Labs, which picked up $66000 in total funding in its early years. Tap My Back helps you build a culture of real-time feedback by making it easier to recognise employee achievements during the workflow. As you might imagine, this requires integrating Tap My Back with your most popular collaboration tools, including Gmail, Slack, and Microsoft Teams.

Tap My Back is leveraged by leading companies such as McDonald’s, L’Oreal and Pernod Ricard.

The Tap My Back integration for Microsoft Teams lets you use Teams as a tool for sharing recognition. You can also receive notifications on recognition activities, check for organisation updates on a news feed, and participate in the healthy competition by benchmarking against one’s peers’ recognition levels. Importantly, Tap My Back does not work as a standalone app in Teams. You need to have the primary product installed (including a paid subscription) to be able to use most features.

With that out of the way, let’s review the integration’s functionalities in detail.

Inside Tap My Back for Microsoft Teams

As a prerequisite, you will need an existing Tap My Back subscription – the platform offers three paid tiers starting at $2 per user per month. Once this is in place, go to Microsoft AppSource, look for Tap My Back, and install the integration using the same email account associated with your Tap My Back subscription. Now, you are ready to start using Tap My Back as a personal app on Teams or as a tab on a channel of your choice.

Here are the key features you can expect with the integration:

  • Employee pulse surveys – You can use the Tap My Back app to conduct employee surveys in Teams. The app supports bespoke surveys in line with your enterprise needs and is best suited for short, pulse surveys to capture regular feedback. Tap My Back comes with prebuilt templates that can be customised and saved for later use.
  • The Tap My Back news feed – The app’s news feed collates and presents all the activity occurring across the organisation using Tap My Back. This drives an element of social recognition so that employees feel appreciated in front of their peers and not just in private. The news feed shows you cards containing recognition information, and users can like and comment on every card.
  • In-the-moment recognition – As the name suggests, the core value proposition of the Tap My Back app is that it enables convenient in-the-moment recognitions or “Taps”. From the Tap My Back in Teams, navigate to the Give Recognition tab and configure the Tap as necessary. You can specify a person or team’s name, choose a recognition badge, describe the reason behind the recognition, and even add an image. The person will receive the Tap as a direct message and on the News Feed.
  • Personal profile analysis – The personal profile feature on the Tap My Back app gives you a summary of your recognition activity. Apart from your name, display picture, and personal information, you’ll also see a snapshot analysis of your recognition activity, feedback, and mood information, as captured by pulse surveys. This data can be filtered for one month, quarter, or year.
  • Channel notifications – When you recognise a colleague, you can notify other Teams, and users through a channel message apart from DMs and the Tap My Back news feed. Choose the relevant channel and from the + icon on top, find and select the Tap My Back connector. This will route recognition notifications to the channel (in addition to other places), and channel members can choose to “Re-tap,” a person to build engagement.
  • Recognition badges – Badges are a key feature of Tap My Back. You can choose from the prebuilt badges like Good Vibes, Knowledge Share, Creative Thinker, etc., or create your own.

Why the Tap My Back App Makes a Difference

An important USP of Tap My Back is its data analysis capabilities. You can collate team engagement data into reports, track performance, and export it for further analysis.
