Virgin Media O2 Business has announced it now offers Microsoft Teams Phone Mobile, days after its recently announced merger with Daisy Group.
“There are hundreds of thousands of field workers across the UK – from social workers to consultants, insurance assessors to field engineers – all of whom need unified solutions to do their best work on the move,”
Jessica O’Connor, Product Director at Virgin Media O2 Business, said.
The update will allow Virgin Media O2 Business customers to move between mobile and desktop Microsoft Teams calls seamlessly.
Virgin Media O2 Business’ Upgraded Offering
The new solution, now available to large business customers, enables Virgin Media O2 Business users to communicate with colleagues working from a desk, all on the same platform.
With a single phone number or Teams ID, Teams Phone Mobile allows users to make and receive calls over traditional mobile, app-based, or desktop calling.
“Teams Phone Mobile offers a next-level calling experience for Microsoft 365 customers, ensuring seamless collaboration regardless of device or location. Our ongoing collaboration with Virgin Media O2 Business further expands these capabilities across the UK, making it even easier for businesses to meet the needs of the modern workforce,”
Mark Nixon, Director of Modern Work at Microsoft UK, said.
This integrated experience includes mobiles within Teams calling services, allowing employees to extend ‘in a call’ status, access call history, and voicemail across devices for ultimate flexibility.
Users can also seamlessly switch between cellular network and internet calls without dropping calls or interruptions, while leveraging enterprise-grade security and integration with compliance solutions.
Virgin Media O2 Business is also the UK’s only operator offering the Teams Calling Automation Portal, a feature that allows automation of various aspects of phone system calls, including auto attendants, call queues, and call transfers.
Initial Signs of a Wider UC Entry?
This move by Virgin Media O2 Business shows an increasing pattern of the organization trying to embed itself into the UC ecosphere.
Its recently announced merger with Daisy Group indicates as much. Daisy Group is the largest independent B2B communications company in the UK. It provides business broadband, VoIP, telephone systems, and IT solutions.
Key Ambitions of the Merger
The merger’s stated ambitions will be offer UK businesses a comprehensive range of best-in-class digital-first connectivity solutions and managed services all under one roof, underpinned by Virgin Media O2’s next generation fixed and mobile infrastructure and Daisy Group’s digital-first operations and modern IT systems.
Ever since the switch to the cloud, legacy UC providers—mostly telecoms companies—have seen their influence and market share wane.
As a result, many initially responded by developing standalone cloud telephony offerings.
This approach rapidly became obsolete with the dominance of platforms like Teams and Zoom in the UC sphere.
As a result, the tactic has switched from competing to complementing.
“This standalone segment is now in decline, rapidly being replaced by cloud telephony services that integrate into UC platforms,”
Co-CEO of LoopUp Steve Flavell told UC Today.
Thus, Virgin Media O2 Business’ planned merger with Daisy Group to create a communications and IT colossus valued upwards of £2.5 billion could see it become a dominant player in add-on cloud telephony services for Teams users in the UK.
Virgin Media O2 Business Teams Phone Mobile is available to large enterprises now, with rollout for wider business customers commencing later in 2025.
