Ribbon Communications, a global leader in secure and intelligent cloud communications, today announced that its Session Border Controller 7000 (SBC 7000) and G5 Media Gateway have achieved Joint Interoperability Testing Command (JITC) certification by the U.S. Department of Defense’s (DoD) Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) and are now available on the Approved Products List (APL).
The SBC 7000 was architected to provide the industry’s highest capacity for scaling of real time communications traffic and the G5 Media Gateway provides high-density support for analogue line migrations. Ribbon’s carrier-grade scale enables the DoD to substantially reduce power, floor space, and maintenance costs. The SBC 7000 and G5 Media Gateway join an extensive line of Ribbon products already on the DISA Approved Products List including the SBC Software Edition, SBC 5110, SBC 5210, Voice Exchange 900 and the Application Server (as both an Enterprise and Local Session Controller).
The DISA APL provides a list of certified technology products for deployment in the U.S. DoD. The certification is a rigorous testing process, featuring comprehensive interoperability and information assurance tests to validate and certify vendor products for operation in DoD networks.

Ribbon recently announced that its JITC-certified Application Server was part of the largest VoIP deployment in DoD history, deploying more than 60,000 seats to the command and control organisation.
The SBC 7000, which can scale up to 150,000 sessions via simple software licenses, was architected to provide the industry’s highest scaling capacity with fully enabled security, media and transcoding features, allowing operational teams to expand capacity in days, not months. The SBC 7000’s massive scale empowers service providers and large enterprises to leave behind traditional “racking and stacking” of small capacity SBCs to accommodate growth, resulting in faster deployment times and reduced operational expenses.
Ribbon’s G5 Media Gateway provides high-density support for analogue device migrations with 768 ports per chassis frame. Additionally, it supports extended length legacy copper cabling, which is commonly deployed on military bases (supporting over 20,000 feet). The G5 can dramatically reduce the need to replace legacy analogue devices or legacy cabling, making the migration to next-generation Internet Protocol (IP) and Unified Communications (UC) technology far more cost-effective and practical. The G5 allows the DoD, other enterprises and communications service providers to reduce operational and financial risks by seamlessly linking legacy communications lines to next-generation mobile, broadband, and SIP-based services.
