Microsoft is giving Teams users the ability to customise their video stream during meetings, according to the Microsoft 365 roadmap.

The company is adding video filters to its collaboration platform, which allows users to apply visual effects to augment their video stream.

At the time of writing, it isn’t clear what visual effects will be available to users; however, they will be provided by third-party app developers on the Teams platform.

The Microsoft 365 roadmap entry states:

“Video filters allow participants in Teams Meetings to augment their video stream with visual effects.

“The effects are provided by app developers on Teams Platform.”

The roadmap states that the new video filters feature currently in the preview phase and will be generally available to Teams users next month.

Several new features are coming to the Teams platform in February, including a new type of business-to-customer (B2C) meeting called Virtual Appointments.

The Virtual Appointments feature will be available to Microsoft Teams users who use the platform’s desktop client.

Microsoft states that the new meeting type will be generally available to users in February 2023.

The launch of Virtual Appointments is reported to coincide with the release of a new Teams licence, Microsoft Teams Premium.

The Premium licence includes many features for Virtual Appointments that aren’t included in a standard Teams licence.

Microsoft is also introducing a new way of managing incoming calls when a user is already busy with an existing ring or meeting.

According to the Microsoft 365 roadmap, the feature will be called ‘busy-on-busy’.

The new setting will allow Teams users to decide whether calls can come through, play a busy signal, or redirect the call based on their unanswered call routing preference.

These proposed updates are already on top of several additions that the company made throughout December 2022.

During December, the company made it easier to use Microsoft Teams Rooms on Android devices, improved accessibility features on the platform, added over 800 emojis, and more.
