Patrick is joined by expert guest Thuy Ha who is Vice president, Voice and Real-time communications at CenturyLink.
Firstly Thuy takes Patrick through the main mega trends that CenturyLink are preparing their customers for. The uptake of cloud services is probably the main trend affecting business. Cloud uptake also forms a major part of digital transformation (DX) which is another huge change taking place currently in business. Patrick asks Thuy if DX is being driven by a fear of disruption from competitors.
“Disruptors are always going to be at the back of everybody’s mind – At the onset that really was the driver around digital transformation. Where we are now, we have evolved from just looking at disruptors, or fear of disruptors to actually seeing some of the benefits and opportunity that can be derived.”
Thuy then moves onto take Patrick through the other mega trends, next up they discuss the changing workforce or ‘millenialisation’ and how the changing expectations of modern staff are impacting businesses. Not only will the next generation entering the workforce have an impact, it will change even more as they move into more senior management positions.
The ever present threat of cyber security also lingers over the whole of the technology industry and is one of the trends really affecting businesses.
Finally Thuy and Patrick examine the boom in Big Data and how the rise of the IoT and connected devices is going to accelerate that. But will companies be able to use the huge amounts of new data wisely?
“Data is just data. It doesn’t do too much unless you leverage it with intelligent analytics.”
Patrick then asks Thuy how these mega trends are impacting businesses and what they need to do to make sure they adjust to the changes that are occurring.
