Promethean is partnering with Google on a new Chromebox OPS compute device to elevate its interactive flat panel displays for more advanced collaboration in education settings.

The Chromebox OPS is pitched as a compact, plug-and-play module that transforms its interactive displays into fully integrated ChromeOS environments. Designed for seamless deployment, Promethean adds that the device eliminates the need for complex cabling or additional setup, granting a streamlined, certified ChromeOS experience. This aims to ensure educators and admins can instantly access cloud-based files and classroom content without interruptions or extra configuration steps.

Lance Solomon, Chief Product Officer at Promethean, commented:

Installing the new Chromebox OPS is simple because it fits right into an ActivPanel, giving ChromeOS users a more straightforward, intuitive experience. Not only will customers have an upgraded ChromeOS experience, but they can also extend the life of their hardware purchases.”

In contrast to fixed embedded systems, Promethean outlines that the Chromebox OPS offers a modular approach, allowing schools and districts to upgrade or swap out the compute unit independently of the display. This decoupled architecture ensures long-term flexibility and future-proofs the investment as hardware and software requirements evolve.

From a management perspective, Promethean says that IT teams can preload ChromeOS and Promethean’s ActivSuite apps directly onto the ChromeOS shelf, giving educators and managers immediate access to essential tools like the Explain Everything whiteboard, Spinner, Timer, Annotate, and the Screen Share Receiver.

Meanwhile, the vendor highlights that centralised management through the Google Admin console enables streamlined deployment and oversight, while the platform benefits from automatic updates and integrated security features, including built-in virus protection.

“We’re excited to have collaborated with Google to create a seamless ChromeOS solution, continuing our journey of developing products that are easy to use and simple to maintain,” added Solomon. “We look forward to sharing more and engaging with educators at the ChromeOS Experience Center and ISTELive this year.”

Promethean To Boost Collaboration With ‘Most Adaptable’ New Display

In November, Promethean announced the ActivPanel 10, its “most adaptable” new interactive flat panel display to enhance enterprise collaboration.

Promethean launched ActivSuite, a newly developed software platform designed to work in tandem with ActivPanel 10. Promethean emphasises that together, they deliver a streamlined, intuitive “plug-and-play” experience that minimises onboarding time and eliminates the need for extensive training. The stress is on providing functionality exactly when and where it’s needed, reducing complexity for both end users and support teams.

Security and system flexibility are pitched as foundational to ActivPanel 10’s design. It supports multiple operating systems—including Android, Windows, and Chrome—enabling organisations to align the panel with their existing infrastructure and workflows. Promethean adds that its versatile architecture ensures smooth interoperability with a wide range of connected devices, creating a consistent and user-friendly experience across environments.

Promethean positions this combination as a future-ready solution for education and workplace collaboration. IT admins, educators, and staff can quickly become proficient with a minimal learning curve. Meanwhile, the modular design allows for device-level upgrades without requiring panel replacement, protecting the long-term value of the initial investment and easing the transition through future tech refresh cycles.
