The forthcoming FaceTime app for Apple TV will harness the power of Center Stage, Apple’s AI-powered technology, used when using the front cameras on iPhones and iPads. Center Stage dynamically frames users as they engage with the TV, delivering an immersive and captivating video conferencing experience.
With the introduction of FaceTime to Apple TV, Apple is aiming to expand FaceTime out of just portable devices . A forthcoming tvOS 17 update will introduce a dedicated FaceTime app, allowing users to leverage their iPhone or iPad cameras for high-quality video calls on their television sets.
By leveraging Continuity Camera, users can launch the FaceTime app on their Apple TV device, wirelessly connecting it to their iPhone or iPad. Moreover, users have the flexibility to seamlessly transfer ongoing calls from their iPhones to Apple TV with just a few taps.
The FaceTime app automatically centre speakers and adjust the frame dynamically when additional participants join the call. This ensures that all participants are perfectly framed and included in the conversation, enhancing the video-calling experience.
Apple has also confirmed that developers will have access to the Continuity Camera API for Apple TV, allowing them to harness the capabilities of iPhone and iPad cameras to develop their own video-calling apps for tvOS.
