Snom freshly announced the launch of its latest IP desk phone, an addition to its successful D3XX series of devices. I’m told the new IP desk phone is the ‘little brother’ of Snom’s flagship D385 IP desk phone and completes the portfolio upgrade to a paperless and high-resolution display. Gernot Sagl, CEO of Snom Technology GmbH, told me, the new D335 is now available and retails for £145, adding: “Snom’s D335 desk phone combines a range of functions with a modern design, and it has a unique, innovative, smart feature:”

“…the proximity sensor which ensures all relevant functions get displayed as soon as a user’s hand approaches the display or function keys”

“All of this is packaged in an advanced desk phone in a price category where you would normally find a very basic device”

Moreover, he shared with me, the technology was first integrated into Snom’s D735 IP desk phone. The phone’s display wakes up and presents all the relevant information such as speed dial, URL dialing, local dialing, automatic redial, call back on busy, call waiting, caller ID, and when a user moves their hand away, the display reverts to ‘standby mode.’ Snom’s all-new D335 has a high-resolution TFT color display, an integrated DSP processor that enables HD sound, and a total of 32 self-labeling function keys, eight of which are physical keys.

The D335 features an integrated Gigabit switch, which you can think of as a network surge protector that supports extra IP phone installations. It has Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) functionality and a USB port to connect a variety of devices like Snom’s A210 WLAN USB stick so Snom devices can operate without network cables. Snom’s A230 DECT USB stick converts Snom desk phones into a viable phone conferencing solution in combination with the C52-SP wireless expansion module.

The D335 launch follows hot on the tail of the recent launch of the Snom M900 multicell base station. The device could very well provide a boost for businesses, governments, healthcare workers, and warehouse employees hoping to enable reliable as well as critical communications during the novel Coronavirus period.

Mark Wiegleb, Head of Interop and Integration, Snom, underlined this by telling me: “We designed our new DECT base station for large, complex sites, such as modern offices, hospitals, industrial environments, and warehouses, sites that often present special challenges for DECT installations. Snom’s M900 multi-cell base station and matching DECT handsets can both be ‘easily’ installed and are simple to operate.”

According to researchers at ‘The Insights Partners,’ the IP telephony market made up $ 25.26 billion in revenue in 2017, and it’s set to grow at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 10 percent totaling 63.47 billion by the year 2027. COVID-19’s had an impact on the market, something analysts couldn’t have taken into account, meaning there could be even more cash to be made in the IP phone market than we think. Snom’s sure to capture a large part of that market because of its status as a veteran in the IP phone industry.
