SurveyMonkey is among the best free survey tools in the world, with a compelling paid tier for enterprises. The company was founded in 1999 and is publicly traded on the NASDAQ, owing its incredible success to a holistic suite of marketing and user research products. Apart from only surveys, this includes online forms, online application management, conversion of customer feedback into marketing content, employee engagement, and more.

In short, if there was ever a survey and feedback collection tool you’d need in Microsoft Teams, SurveyMonkey offers the perfect solution.

The SurveyMonkey integration for Microsoft Teams was launched in 2020 amid a meteoric rise in Teams’ user numbers. The app would empower users further, helping in daily tasks such as employee engagement, events, feedback collection, and collaboration, which were now happening entirely via virtual channels. Notably, SurveyMonkey partnered with several organisations in their efforts to fight COVID-19, helping in contact tracing activities and feedback collection for critical research. Therefore, the introduction of SurveyMonkey in the Microsoft ecosystem marked a timely addition.

Let us now review the features of the app in more detail.

Inside the SurveyMonkey App for Teams

Using the SurveyMonkey app, you can create quizzes, polls, and surveys, collecting and viewing the results without leaving the Teams interface. To install the app, you can directly navigate to your Teams account by clicking on the Install button on this SurveyMonkey page. You could also open the app marketplace from your Teams sidebar and choose the SurveyMonkey integration option.

Users on any Teams and SurveyMonkey plan can start using the app. Here are its key features:

  • Prebuilt quiz templates – SurveyMonkey has curated a unique collection of quiz templates for Teams, covering common topics such as diversity & inclusion, learning and development, or a product launch. Quizzes can be created within a team conversation, and you can choose from multiple types of questions – Multiple Choice, Dropdown, Checkbox, Comment Box, Star Rating, or Slider. A simple toggle lets you mark mandatory questions, turn on response anonymisation, and schedule the quiz deadline.
  • Surveys with up to 20 questions – Like quizzes, you can set up a survey in Teams with up to 20 questions, encompassing the multiple types of questions we mentioned. Users can create a survey from scratch, using a template, or with minor customisations to an existing template. As in quizzes, Teams users can take a survey without leaving the Microsoft Teams app.
  • One question pulse surveys or polls – Polls are single-question surveys that help you get a quick read on employee sentiment and user opinion. Significantly, you can add up to 50 answer options for that one question using a drop-down box. Multiple-choice questions are limited to 7 options only, but there’s room for more feedback through the comments feature on polls that allow for open statements. In the case of polls, you can choose to hide the poll results to prevent bias when responding.
  • Channel tabs to share survey results – This feature is called the Analytics Tab in the SurveyMonkey app for Microsoft Teams. You can pin a SurveyMonkey tab to a channel of your choice and select the survey results you want to share via the tab. The tab can aggregate results from multiple related surveys in one place – for example, feedback on different feature ideas before a product launch. Or, you can share each result in its own independent tab. Using this feature, you can also highlight specific open-ended statements, individual responses, and data trends.
  • Automated notifications – The SurveyMonkey Connector lets you set up automated notifications for a channel of your choice. Notifications can be sent whenever someone completes a survey, when there is a new comment on the survey design, or to share a daily summary of survey participation for that day. Importantly, you can also share notifications for surveys created outside of Teams.

Why the SurveyMonkey App Makes a Difference

SurveyMonkey brings an extremely intuitive feedback collection experience to the Teams platform. You will find all the necessary features without any clutter, and you can make your polls/quizzes/surveys as simple or as complex as necessary. The availability of the app on all Teams and SurveyMonkey plans makes it even more compelling and accessible to a wide audience.

What We Think

SurveyMonkey remains one of the best ways to collect feedback, and it’s a great addition to your Teams toolkit whether you are regularly collecting employee/user research or need to conduct the occasional poll.
