Data discovery software vendor X1 has expanded its platform to support Teams and Microsoft 365 applications for optimised eDiscovery and compliance processes.
The X1 Enterprise Collect Platform specialises in index-in-place data discovery software for legal, compliance, governance and investigative requirements.
Organisations such as government agencies, law firms and businesses can now utilise X1βs automated and unified system to target collections of electronically stored information (ESI) from data sources across their organisation, including Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint, Mail, Dropbox, and laptops and file-shares. This enables X1 Platform customers to perform the eDiscovery and compliance process seamlessly.
Larry Gill, CEO at X1, commented:
We are extremely excited to offer our unique and proprietary index-in-place collection capabilities to now support MS 365 Teams and SharePoint data sources with the X1 Enterprise Collect platform. This new addition addresses a massive data source pain point with eDiscovery collection processes today. Most eDiscovery tools collect from MS 365 by simply making bulk copies of data, and then attempt to transfer that dataΒ en masse, a costly, time-consuming, and problematic approach.β
The benefits of X1 Enterprise Collectβs integration with Teams stretch beyond the unified search and collection of on-premise and cloud data sources, such as Teams. These include the capability to target individual custodians and messaging threads, removing the requirement to download channels en masse.
X1 has a patented βindex, search and process the dataβ structure, removing the reliance on further processing services. Functionally, there is a one-click upload into Relativity for review, streamlining the end-to-end process, while the platform is a fully automated solution.
βWith X1βs patented, automated in-place approach to data discovery with unified search, preservation and targeted collection, the process is optimised,β Gill added. βWith X1βs true index-in-place technology, X1 Enterprise Collect alleviates the need for expensive premium processing and hefty downloads now for Microsoft 365 Teams and SharePoint applications.β
With Teams hitting 300 million monthly active users this year, the service represents a substantial repository of ESI. X1 Enterprise Collect enables businesses and their legal counsel to index, search and process ESI from a single offering and target individual custodians and messaging threads to avoid bulk data downloads. This intends to reduce eDiscovery costs and save time so customers only collect what ESI they need.
βThe ability to accurately and effectively collect data from Microsoft Teams is paramount given the explosion of potentially relevant content being generated by collaboration applications in todayβs business landscape,β said Bobby Malhotra, Partner, Winston & Strawn LLP.
Data Collection, Compliance and Security a Critical Issue in 2023
The capability to collect ESI from such immense and comprehensive sources as Teams and other 365 apps can be a significant challenge without the right technology.
Malhotra explained: βWith the vast number of users and unyielding amount of data in collaboration applications such as Teams, having the ability to target and triage data by specific custodians and threads allows organisations to handle discovery in an efficient and pragmatic manner. X1 provides the unique ability to seamlessly collect and search across numerous web, collaboration, and social data sources.β
Data collection, compliance and security have become critical issues in 2023 as hybrid working becomes the new normal, with the associated risks of remote networks lacking the robust protections of on-premises networks.
